It’s winter. It’s freezing outside. It’s darker earlier in the morning and evening. Thus, I’ve been getting a lot of treadmill running in lately. I’m not brave enough to run in the freezing, dark outdoors, so I stay inside and run before school/work or during naptime!
While I’m running on the treadmill, I love to read on my phone or tablet. These are the books I read during the month of November while running on the treadmill:
- Cursed, by TL Brown
- Graceling, by Kristin Cashore
- Clockwork Angel, by Cassandra Clare
- The Winner’s Crime, by Marie Rutkoski
- Shiver, by Maggie Stiefvater
Out of those 5 books that I read this past month, I’d totally recommend Graceling

My tips for running while reading:
1. Use ebooks (electronic books) – on your phone, tablet, or other electronic device that can sit on the treadmill. My tablet has been having issues lately, so I’ve been using my phone. Just make the text size a little bigger ;)
2. This goes along with #1, but did you know you can reserve ebooks at your library?! I do this ALL THE TIME. Yes, you can buy ebooks online, and they are usually cheaper than the hard copy, but if you have time to wait, the why not reserve them at the library. To see if your library has this option available, look google ‘Library2Go’ for your county or state.
3. Get use to turning the page! I hardly even notice when I’m turning the page anymore, but for some people it’s a nuisance. Just think of it as a distraction from the mundane running in one spot.
4. Read good books that interest you a lot! Personally, I wouldn’t be able to read a non-fiction, self-help, or informational book while running. I have to read something that makes me forget about how boring it is to run on a treadmill…not something that makes it even more boring ;)
